JUNE 9, 2020 HOW’S YOUR ANGER METER?

Proverbs 22:24 – 25 “Do not make friends with an angry man, and do not associate with a hot-tempered man, or you may learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.”

Throughout America, there are concerned people of all ages who want to see social change and justice for those who have suffered racial discrimination. These goals are admirable. But will violence achieve these goals? No.

Violence begets violence and hatred begets hatred. Self – pity is a deadly temptation because the longer you think about how badly someone has mistreated you, the angrier you become and the more likely you are to become violent. Associate with violent people and you too will become violent.

America needs healing, but it will never come at gunpoint. The communities that have successfully avoided destruction and looting have been those where people came together peacefully and shared meals together and prayed together.

Today, each of us has a choice: will we become bitter or better? Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life.”

When we choose hatred, violence, resentment, and name – calling, we are choosing death. When we choose to listen, to help, to bless and to forgive, we are choosing life. Today, which will you choose?

PRAYER: Father God, help each one of us to listen to your voice and to choose peace, to choose forgiveness, and to choose reconciliation. In the mighty and precious Name of King Jesus. Amen.
