AUGUST 21, 2020 IF YOU THINK JESUS IS A WIMP, WHY WORSHIP HIM?

1 Peter 3:21-22 “through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him.”

These days, there are a number of groups protesting injustices and demonstrating. Many of these groups gain power by fear and intimidation. But none of these groups can begin to approach the manner in which Jesus protested the injustices of his day! And Jesus accomplished his purposes working by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Without fear or intimidation, Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons, and confronted hypocritical religious leaders. When Jesus died, it was not for lack of power but because he willingly laid down his life. But having willingly laid down his life, Jesus conquered death, hell and the grave. None of these movements have remotely approached what Jesus accomplished in a few short years.

LET’S BE FRANK! IF JESUS AS THE SON OF GOD IS A WIMP, THERE IS NO POINT IN WORSHIPING HIM!

St. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:20 “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.”

The three pictures above demonstrate the manner in which Jesus worked.

1. Jesus confronted the religious leaders who demanded that others be very observant, but who saw nothing wrong with having money changers and animal sellers in the temple where God was supposed to be worshipped. Jesus tipped over the tables and drove the money changers out of the temple. Interestingly, although the rulers demanded to know by what authority Jesus was doing this, when Jesus answered them, they had no further reply.

2. Jesus lauged at so many things! He laughed at the ridiculous rumors spread about him. He laughed when people told him jokes. He laughed when he heard about threats from religious and political leaders. Why? Because Jesus knew that in the end, he was going to be triumphant.

3. Jesus healed. Here, Jesus is healing a deaf and dumb man, but Jesus healed just by walking down the street. One lady who had suffered for years with vaginal bleeding (a medical problem that would have kept her out of the temple) merely touched the fringes of Jesus’ prayer shawl and was instantly healed. At the time, Jesus was on his way to heal the daughter of Jairus, one of the rulers of the synagogue. By the time Jesus reached the house, the twelve year old girl was dead, but when Jesus took her by the hand, she became alive again. Once, Jesus was walking down the street in a town called Nain when he met a funeral procession. A poor widow had lost her only son, and they were sending the body to the tomb. Jesus touched the young man and he instantly rose from the dead.

To be a Christian means that you worship Jesus Christ, “who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers subject to Him.” Jesus himself told his followers as he was leaving the earth that ““All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciplesc of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18 – 20)

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, we want to believe. Help our unbelief! Lord, show yourself mighty and strong in the lives of all who will read these words. Show them that you have power to save, power to heal, power to transform, and power for us to live for you! In your mighty and precious Name, Lord. Amen.

NO MATTER YOUR PROBLEMS, JESUS HAS POWER TO SAVE AND TO DELIVER!
TRUST HIM!
