OCTOBER 2, 2020 THE SPEED OF DARKNESS IS THE SPEED OF LIGHT!

1 John 3:9 – 10 “Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother.”

Matthew 6:22 – 23 (Jesus told his disciples) “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your vision is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your vision is poor, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!“

We are living in an age when the darkness seems to be rising! Throughout America, there are extremist groups of all kinds bent on destroying anything or anybody who does not agree with them. In their zeal, these groups have defaced statues, desecrated graves, and have destroyed neighborhoods. And they have even displayed signs demanding that God leave their particular areas.

Someone once asked a physics student if they knew what the speed of darkness was. The answer is simple: the speed of darkness is the speed of light, for darkness and light cannot coexist. God is light and dwells in unapproachable light. When we confess our sins and ask God to come into our hearts, to forgive our sins, and to make us new creatures in Him, He cleans us up and puts His Holy Spirit into our hearts. As long as we continue to follow God, the Holy Spirit will live inside us and will keep sin out because light and darkness cannot mix.

What is the test to see if someone has light or darkness living in them? The question is one of love. If we love those around us, if we are as concerned for their well – being as we are for our own, then we are steadily proving that we are God’s children. Children generally copy their parents. We have all seen little boys wearing their father’s boots and trying to take big steps like their dads, or little girls modeling their mom’s shoes, even when the shoes are way too big.

Eventually, each one of us will choose to copy either God or Satan. As Ron Kenoly is fond of saying, “The church today is engaged in a spiritual war and there is no demilitarized zone.” There are no half measures. We cannot play with a little bit of darkness and then run back to God. How many addicts of various kinds have deluded themselves that they could return to a casino or to a bar and just be with their friends without falling back into addiction?

Thousands of years ago, Joshua put the question to the Children of Israel: Choose this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Which will you choose?

Father God, thank you for loving us and being a good Father. Lord, help us to faithful children. Let your light fill our hearts and our lives and help us to be loving children. In the mighty Name of King Jesus.
