The Glories of the City of God
A Psalm of the sons of Korah. A Song.
“His foundation is in the holy mountains. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God! Selah
“I will make mention of Rahab (Egypt) and Babylon to those who know Me; behold, O Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia: ‘This one was born there.’ ” And of Zion it will be said, “This one and that one were born in her; and the Most High Himself shall establish her.”
The Lord will record, when He registers the peoples: “This one was born there.” Selah
Both the singers and the players on instruments say, “All my springs are in you.”
“His foundation is in the holy mountains. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God! Selah” If there’s one thing in abundance in Israel, it’s stone of various kinds. The city of Jerusalem glows with a singular light because its buildings are made of Jerusalem stone, the particular kind of limestone portrayed in this photo. There’s also a special spirit about Jerusalem that division, dissension, and conflict have failed to erase. Once David conquered the Jebusites and entered Jerusalem, true worship began there and has never really died out ever since. Even though God withdrew the Shekinah glory from the temple after centuries of idolatry, His Presence remains in Jerusalem.
“I will make mention of Rahab (Egypt) and Babylon to those who know Me; behold, O Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia: ‘This one was born there.’ ” And of Zion it will be said, “This one and that one were born in her; and the Most High Himself shall establish her.” Those coming from Jerusalem are particularly gifted people and the favor of God continues to rest on them. Israel is dotted with tells-those heaps of rubble that once were thriving ancient cities. Jerusalem survives despite all attempts to destroy her; truly, if not for God, Jerusalem might simply be one more tell with markers explaining things for tourists.
“The Lord will record, when He registers the peoples: “This one was born there.” Selah Both the singers and the players on instruments say, “All my springs are in you.” Those born in Jerusalem are special people, and God is fully aware of every one of them. To this day, Jerusalem continues to inspire musicians and artists from around the world.

APPLICATION: I have a doctor friend who was born in Jerusalem but whose family fled to Egypt when he was quite young. My friend schooled in Egypt and later immigrated to America, where he continues to practice surgery. My friend’s family is Palestinian, and they resettled because of the confusion surrounding the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. From my friend, I learned of the suffering they endured trying to decide whether or not to remain in Israel. Nothing is simple.
Anyone wishing to apply simplistic solutions to the current conflicts fails to understand the complexity of the situation in Israel. But despite all the problems, God continues to show favor to Israel and He continues to move in that situation.
Recently, many Christians have begun wondering if we are in the end times because of the Biblical prophecies regarding international attacks on Israel. Can things get any worse? The short answer to that question is “Yes, things might get much worse. Only God knows His eternal time clock.” What do the current attacks on Israel mean for believers? We must redouble our efforts at faithfulness, realizing that the time to tell the world about the One True Living God is dwindling. What do these attacks mean for non-believers? WAKE UP! God is calling you to worship Him today, not at some vague time in the future!
At some point, God will call an end to the world as we know it; on that day, will you be serving God or Satan? “But,” you reply indignantly, ”Just because I am not actively serving God does not mean I’m serving Satan.” Oh? There is no such thing as neutrality in the spirit world; you are either serving God or else serving Satan by your neglect to serve God. You don’t have to be practicing dark Satanic rituals to serve Satan; you only have to refuse to accept God’s offers of mercy, love, grace, and forgiveness of your sins through Jesus Christ His Son. Today is the only time you have to choose. Choose wisely, but realize that as you choose, you are choosing for all eternity.
PRAYER: Father God, thank You for loving us and for caring for us. Lord, my heart is breaking for those who will read these words and casually dismiss them, assuming they are simply the opinions of some crank. Let Your Holy Spirit move in the hearts of all who read these words so that they will come under conviction and will turn and follow You whole-heartedly. In the mighty and precious Name of Jesus. Amen.
